Fonts for music magazine

This is the font and title i am going to use for my music magazine cover. i have chosen this font from the website Dafont.com. i chose this font as i feel that it has a rough fabric feel to it and most indie musicians are resembled by the clothing that they wear. this may also be the title font that i use throughout my magazine on pages such as the contents page.
this is the font that i am going to use for the side stories on my front cover. i have chosen this for the rough effect that it gives.

Possible names for music magazine
Unknown: I would consider this a good name for my chosen genre indie rock as there are many unknown indie rock bands or artists that are not known by many people. Also people who consider themselves indie are usually separate from mainstream and are considered as unknown as their life style is not what the public sees as normal.
Underground: I would consider this a good name as well because my target audience is the type of person who goes to small gigs in places such as basements or in small clubs 'underground'.

Target audience for music magazine
When I image my target audience I imagine them to be in the age range of 18-20 and a student. I expect them to be interested in smaller mostly unheard of bands who play in small gigs in small venues or basements. I also see them as a musician mainly being an acoustic guitar. They are also the type of person who enjoys going to festivals and following smaller bands around. I see them as 'indie' as they dont go anywhere without their iPod and have it full with unheard of songs from unheard of bands or up and coming bands just starting out.

My Genre choice
I have chosen to base my music magazine on the music genre indie rock. i have chosen this as i enjoy bands such as mumford and sons. I can also think of many ideas that i can do that will put across this genre effectively.

Semiotics
Semiotics is the study of signs, this is when something van represent something else. For instance the colour red is a colour however it can also have other interpretations such as it may give the feeling of anger or the resemblance of blood.
Ferdinand de Saussure
His dyadic system suggests that signs are just psychological rather than they actually exist.
Charles sander pierce
His tryadic semiotic system suggests that a sign is either one of three
Index: this meaning the sign does not have an arbitrary signifier(such as smoke may suggest fire but does not mean that there is a fire)
Icon: this is when the sign resembles the signified but is not real (such as a picture of a tree may indicate a tree but is in fact not a tree)
Symbol: this is when the sign is conventional (such as letters or numbers)
While creating my magazine I will have to take semiotics into account so that my magazine gives across the correct message and that even the smallest symbol or letter relates to my chosen genre.

Magazine Covers research
from this magazine cover i have noticed that most music magazines have a main central image that acts as the focus point. this therefore showing that this is the main part of a magazines front cover.
from this magazine i have noticed that the side text or sub stories is usually in quite small font, i think this is done so attention is drawn towards the main image.
from this magazine i have noticed that even though the picture covers part of the title you still know what the name of the magazine is. this shows me that when creating the magazine the mast head and title need to be able to leave a lasting impact. also the mast head has to be large so that it is easily noticeable.

Questionnaire
The purpose of my questionnaire is to find out how many people buy music magazines and how many do not. It may also help me to decide the target audience for my magazine as i can see what age group leans towards my chosen genre. to produce my questionnaire i used google docs, this was very helpful as it allowed me to lay out my questionnaire effectively with the use of page break, with these results i will evaluate which age group is attracted to certain magazines. this method was very useful as it allowed me to lay my questionnaire well as meant that i could follow two routes depending on the answers that people put.
This is the link to my questionnaire
